Of course, in a touristy city like Salzburg, you can also find restaurants that primarily cater to the culinary clichés of the country. But even in most of these frequented establishments, the food is really good.

Our tip: Look for insider tips around our Wendl Hotels. Maxglan, the district where the Hotel max70 and the HOTEL junior are located, is known for its rustic inns, some even with their own farms – and this even though we are in the middle of the city. The passion with which these restaurants serve their specialties made from their own produce is particularly notable for Salzburg.

If you want fine dining, Maxglan is the place to be: The gourmet restaurant Ikarus, the Magazine, the Dining Room, the Riedenburg, within a one kilometer radius there are many Michelin or Gault Millau decorated restaurants.

For Fusion Kitchen, the location of the HOTEL Andrä is perfect: In the bustling Andräviertel, there are excellent Italian, Croatian, Peruvian, American, Mexican, Japanese, vegan or vegetarian restaurants. Whenever you find yourself sitting only among locals from Salzburg, you know: Everything is done right!

An important part of Austrian culture is the coffee houses. Whether for breakfast or for a break in the afternoon with coffee and cake, it's best to skip counting calories during the Austria trip.
